The administration of Donald Trump has agreed to pause the 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico for one month while both parties negotiate an agreement. This announcement was made this morning by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum following a conversation with the Republican leader, in which she agreed to «immediately» strengthen her country’s border with an additional 10,000 National Guard soldiers to combat drug trafficking, particularly fentanyl. In return, the United States has committed to taking action to curb the illegal trafficking of weapons into Mexico, where cartels operate with high-powered firearms.
